Grief is hard enough to deal with in our “are you over it yet” culture. American norms about being productive and getting-back-on-track, silence us, shame us and prevent the healing needed to truly move into a lively and authentic life without those who died. This art installation was a public-in-person UNSILENCING of my grief about the deaths of my family members. It explored their hopeful younger selves, their suffering, as well as their tragic ends. It was a tribute to love, acceptance and defiance.
